DOMAINE GUFFENS-HEYNEN & MAISON VERGET
Jean-Marie Guffens is one of Burgundy's greatest characters - a Belgian who acquired Pouilly-Fuissé vineyards (having studied Architecture and Theatre) in 1976. He and his wife work a tiny Domaine in Pouilly-Fuissé, so to supplement their turnover a grape-buying company and négoçiant, Verget SA, was formed. This rapidly earned itself a top reputation for innovation in white wine making, and the finest qualities. High rainfall during the 2000 summer resulted in widely differing levels of ripeness between the grapes growing high on the vines, and those beneath. Only the ripest, high-growing bunches from the finest plots (Clos des Petits Croux, La Roche and Les Croux) went into this Pouilly-Fuissé cuvée. All 36 magnums bottled were placed to the Guffens family reserves. This is their first release. AH
