Lot Essay

The present drawing dates from the later 1770s and in the loose scallops of the foliage and in the angular depiction of the cattle and the treatment of the wash it may be compared to J. Hayes, The Drawings of Thomas Gainsborough, London, 1970, no. 475, pl. 149.
