Lot Essay

The present watercolour was drawn by Roberts from a sketch by R. Cockerell and published by J. Murray 1832 and sold by C. Tilt of Fleet Street, London. Roberts also drew watercolours of St. Sophia after W. Page, which were engraved by W. Finden. The engraver of this watercolour. E. Finden has misinterpreted the drawing and has added a quay on the right hand side that did not exist.
