both signed and dated 'B.W. Spiers. 87' (lower right), on the edge of the table cloth) and signed again, numbered and inscribed 'No. 1. High Life/B.W. Spiers/70 Hereford Rd./Bayswater.' (on the artist's label attached to the backboard); the second signed and dated 'B.W. Spiers/87.' (lower right, on the skirting board) and signed again, numbered and inscribed 'No. 2. Low Life/B.W. Spiers/70 Hereford Rd./Bayswater.' (on the artist's label attached to the backboard) and with inscription 'We now have 2 pictures by/Mr. B. Spiers-/Exhibited at the/Royal Academy 1887/'High Life'-/'Low Life' 41, Harrow Road, W.2./16 Sept-1936' (on a label attached to the backboard)
