Lot Essay

Bulleid was an associate of John William Godward and other artists of the late neo-classical movement. He rented one of the Bolton Studios in Kensington, which housed twenty artists by 1888 of this ilk, including Godward, Henry Ryland and Thomas B. Kennington. The Art Journal, commented that it was Bulleid's 'skill in rendering marble that secured him election to the Society of Water-colour Painters'. (Art Journal, 1889, p. 245).
