A WELL-PRESENTED FRENCH NAPOLEONIC PRISONER-OF-WAR BONE, BALEEN AND WOOD MODEL OF A 40-GUN SHIP
with bound masts, yards with stun's'l booms, standing and running rigging with bone blocks, carved and tinted warrior-form figurehead, boomkins, headrails, metal anchors with bone stocks, main and belaying rails, capstan, stove pipes, water barrels, ballustraded well deck with two ship's boats over, gratings, compass box, helm, deck lights, eighteen metal guns in carriages, stern boat and other details. The planked and pinned hull with baleen main wale and ebony secondary wale, carved stern and quarter gallery decoration and rudder, is mounted on two carved bone supports to a period-style base with wood-capped bone ballustrading and inlaid board, secured with in a later glazed case with bone urn ornaments and bun feet (model sympathetically restored overall, base and case later). Overall measurements - 14½ x 16¼in. (37 x 41.5cm.)
