The three-masted schooner Chevy Chase was launched as the Albertine in 1860. Designed and built at Lymington by Inman & Son, she was constructed from pine and teak on an English oak frame and measured 97 feet in length with a 19½ foot beam. Renamed Chevy Chase by 1890, she was owned at that time by Frederick Shenstone of Sutton Hall, Barcombe, Sussex.
