Probably painted to mark her entry into service, the Trekieve was built by J. Readhead at South Shields in 1888. Ordered for the extensive general cargo fleet of Edward Hain & Son of St. Ives, she was registered at 1,489 tons gross and measured 259 feet in length with a 36 foot beam. After only nine years of service for her owners, she was wrecked in Mostyn Gutter, in the River Dee, on 31st July 1897 whilst on passage from Carthagena to Mostyn Quay with a cargo of iron ore.
