Lot Essay

The three-masted barque Manitoba was built in the Gingras Yard at Quebec (Canada) in 1870. Registered at 729 tons net, she measured 158 feet in length with a 32½ foot beam and began life trading to South America from her home port of Liverpool. After about twenty years, she was sold to Norwegian owners, re-registered at Egersund and disappears from record around 1900.
