Lot Essay

The 40cm. Telyt lens was first developed for use at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games and was not offered to the public and listed until 1937. The serial number of this example dates from 1936 and the features of the lens are consistent with very early examples. Lager records (p. 118) that lens number 332042 was shipped to Leitz New York on October 29 1938 and that lens is shown in Leitz NY Telyt brochures.
