SETTEE FROM "GONE WITH THE WIND"
Selznick International Pictures/MGM, 1939
An 18th century settee upholstered in teal blue velvet that was used as set dressing in the 'napping scene.' Seen behind the young house servant who fans the sleeping girls as Scarlett tip-toes by, this piece comes with a letter of authenticity which reads in full: "To Whom it may concern,/The eight legged sofa/in blue velvet is eighteenth century/pine, was rented for 'Gone With The/Wind,' and 'It Happened in Paris.'/The sofa was exhibited at the/Metropolitan in 1929 as an example of pure design of its/period./Katherine G. Rinneg/April 1st 1940/P.S. The insurance company/forced me to insure this piece for $500.00-/K.J.R." A 1940 sales receipt for the sofa (it cost $175 plus tax) as well as a vintage-print black and white snapshot of it are also included.
