An export blue and white albarello, Transitional
painted with a central panel inscribed 'ELECT.IND.' beneath a stylised cherub, the reverse with a similar floral panel, all on a ground of exotic birds and animals in a flowering garden -- 9 7/8in. (25cms) high.
This form is often seen in Islamic and European pottery. The pattern derives from Dutch and English Delft of 17th and 18th centuries. For a similar Chinese example see 'Apothecary Jars', Rudolf Drey, Pub. Faber and Faber, 1978, colour plate H.
