A fine gentleman's suit, the coat and breeches of ivory facecloth, the coat with lilac velvet collar, lined in royal blue silk, the collar, buttonholes and cuffs with stylised foliate decoration in metal thread and spangles, the breeches and lilac silk waistcoat similarly decorated, circa 1760s

Provenance
Worn by Thomas Plumbe at his marriage to Elizabeth Tempest. Elizabeth inherited Tong Hall and the representation of the Tempest family on the death of her cousin Sir Henry Tempest Bart in 1819. Her son John assumed the name Plumbe Tempest and was said to be 15th in direct descent from Edward III.
