A fine sampler, with the initials A.W, dated 1713, worked in coloured silks on a linen ground, with alphabets, numerals and darning techniques, the lower section with an emblem of a double eagle with a coronet, flanked by the Lamb of God and a townscape, the upper section embroidered with a cross and religious imagery and the centre section with a parrot, a dear and flowers--14 x 12in. (35 x 31cm.), slightly stained
