A band sampler with the initials XDG, dated 1758, worked in brightly coloured silks on a linen ground, the lower section with alphabets and numerals, border patterns with acorns and flowers, the upper section with a large central urn of flowers, a cockerel and two shepherds with sheep--43 x 9in. (109 x 23cm.)
