Letter signed ('Elizabeth R') to Valentine Brown (Treasurer of the town of Berwick), 'Palayce of Westm[inst]er, the xxviiith day of December the third year of our Reign' [28 December 1561], signed at the head, 8 lines written in brown ink in a secretary hand, one page, 200 x 270 mm, addressed at the foot ('To our trusty and Wellbeloved Servant Valentyne Broun, Treasorer of our town of Berwyk'), royal signet seal (worn), (edges trimmed, dust-stained, mostly in folds).
An order to Brown to make regular payments to Thomas Randolph 'now resyding in Scotland on our service', of fourteen shillings and four pence, beginning from the first day of the present month, and to continue until he is recalled.
Randolph was employed by Elizabeth in various diplomatic missions to Scotland, Russia and France.
