A letter concerning the sums loaned for the defence of the realm against the Spanish Armada the previous year, which it is not now possible to repay as soon as originally intended, 'by reason of the p[rese]nte p[re]parations w[hic]h by the Ennemies mightie attempts against our Re[a]lm we are forced p[re]sently to make both by Sea and land and also for that the first paym[en]t of such subsidies as by this last Parliam[en]t hath bene graunted unto us, is not to be payd to us before the twelveth day of February the next yeare'.
