An announcement of the forthcoming parliament 'to be halden at Edinburgh the xiiii Day of April', at which various affairs concerning the realm will be discussed including matters 'concernying the weill of our cousing [cousin] the Erle of Huntlie'.

William Keith, 4th Earl Marischal of Scotland (c.1507-1581), was associated with leading members of the Protestant church, but opposed attempts to deprive the Queen of the Mass. After Darnley's murder he withdrew from public life. George Gordon, 5th Earl of Huntly (1535-1576), appeared to threaten Mary's authority in the North and was convicted of treason, but was saved by his long friendship with the Queen.
