Details
COKE, Sir Edward (1552-1634, Lord Chief Justice of England). Two documents signed, tripartite indentures, n.p., both 23 January 1632, written in brown ink on vellum, strapwork initial letters in first lines, the first document comprising two membranes, 645 x 810 mm and slightly smaller, signed on the folded back foot by Coke, his wife, Elizabeth, and five others, six seals pendent from vellum tags (one seal missing); the second, one membrane, 545 x 725 mm, signed on the folded back foot, seven seals pendent from vellum tags.
Each document is signed by Coke and his wife (Lady Elizabeth Hatton) as parties to a bargain and sale of messuages, tenements, land and appurtenances in Croft in Lincolnshire, the other signatories including John, Earl of Clare, Sir Thomas Cecil, Thomas Hatton, Jeffery Warburton, and Raph Hawtrey.
