CHARLES I, King of England (1625-1649). Letter signed, with autograph subscription ('Vostre tres affectionné Frere Charles R') to an unidentified royal correspondent ('Monsieur mon tres cher frere'), Westminster, 6 March 1628, in French, one page, folio (integral leaf removed, small traces of former printed backing on verso).
The King sends the letter with Messieurs de Randwick and de Hemstede, ambassadors of the States General, who are returning from negotiations for peace with 'Le Roy Tres Chrestien' [Louis XIII], assuring his correspondent that the English have been reasonable, well disposed, and mindful of his interest in this 'pacification'. 'La faute n'en vient pas de nostre coste cars ils vous pourront temoigner que nous y avons apporté de nostre part toute la bonne disposition & debuoirs [devoirs] raisonnables que dependoye[n]t de nous'
Apparently referring to the peace negotiations with Louis XIII after the debacle of Buckingham's expedition to La Rochelle. Peace was finally concluded in April 1629.
