CHARLES II, King of England (1660-1685). Autograph letter signed ('Charles R', at foot) to Marshal Turenne, Breda, 10 May 1660, 2 pages, 8vo, integral address leaf ('A mon cousin le Vicomte de Turenne'), seal, remains of silk tie, docketed in a later hand at head, contemporary and other endorsements on address leaf (seal tear, tear in blank upper edge of 1st leaf, tiny splits in vertical folds).
A polite and cordial letter acknowledging one from Turenne referring to the intentions and friendship of the Cardinal [Mazarin], saying the Abbé de Montagu will inform him of the present state of his affairs. ('Je suis bien aise des avantages qui vous sont arrivé depuis peu et de la part que vous deves croire que je prens a ce qui vous regarde'), and expressing warmly his gratitude for Turenne's support.
