ALBERT, Prince Consort (1819-1861). Autograph letter signed to the Duke of Sussex ('My dear Uncle'), Buckingham Palace, 15 November 1841, 3 pages, 8vo, autograph envelope; and an autograph letter in German, signed to Councillor Wagner, Osborne, 16 August 1861, on mourning paper, 2 pages, 8vo (filing holes in margin), and: VICTORIA, Duchess of Kent (mother of Queen Victoria). Autograph letter signed, Buckingham Palace, 9 November 1841, to the Duke of Sussex (her brother), 2 pages, 8vo, autograph envelope and 9 other items.
Both letters to the Duke of Sussex concern the birth of a son (the future King Edward VII) to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, the Duchess of Kent writing discreetly 'dearest Victoria has been taken unwell two hours before and up to this all is going on well'; Prince Albert reporting 'Victoria has not suffered the least since the 9th and is recovering as fast as we can wish & the little boy is a healthy strong child'. Albert writes to Councillor Wagner to acknowledge his condolences on the Duchess of Kent's death. (12)
