'I wish to God the Ad[miral]ty had sent you a Capt. Taylor instead of sending him to Capt. Phillips ... who will not be superseded by him'.
A letter concerning naval appointments including Berry's wish to be replaced because of illness, and his own plans, commenting that 'It cannot be long before we are all paid off. You will be in port the 22nd, to go forth no more, but I have wrote to Sir J[ohn] J[ervis] to try to help you to get clear of the Ruby by either another captain or by paying off. They will not allow me to go on shore till the 22nd, if then notwithstanding all my solicitations'.
Berry, Nelson's flag-captain at the Battle of the Nile, served at Trafalgar.
