Lot Essay

According to Dr. Kenneth W. Maddox, Jasper Francis Cropsey painted at least three images of Greenwood Lake in 1875, of which a larger version is included in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.

This painting will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's work in preparation by the Newington-Cropsey Foundation, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
