The design for the service was entrusted to Professor Solntsev, sho was inspired by motifs found in the Metalwork of the Seventeenth Century Russia. The following lots were originally offered as part of a 205-piece service in a sale on behalf of the Soviet Government at Christie's, 21 March, 1967. See Baron N.B. Circular, the centres painted with stylised undulating foliage with blue flowerheads, around a red rosette, on black gound with leaf-tip border, surrounded by green palmette motifs at intervals, on ciselé gilt ground, the gilt rim painted in red and green to simulate jewels, marked under bases
