Lot Essay

Probably one of the best examples of how Fabergé workshops were able to transform functional items such as bellpushes, lighters or cigar-cutters into works of art in the form of silver sculptures modelled as animals.

The mark of the workmaster Henrik Wigström appears rather unusual for such a Fabergé silver item, but this is far from being a unique example. For similar items by Henrik Wigström or Michael Perchin with the most impeccable provenance see Munich, Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstifting, Fabergé, Hofjuewlier der Zaren (1986) nos. 65 and 66 and Christie's New York, The Kazan Collection of Works of Art by Carl Fabergé, 15 April 1997, no.125.
