Mark of Robert Garrard, London, the tray, 1823, the bottle-holder and mounts, 1848
The tray, shaped circular with two reeded handles, with a scroll, acanthus, husking and fishscale border, the detachable bottle-holder tapering octagonal with beaded baluster finial and foliage and strapwork panels, the four bottle and stopper holders circular with pendant shells, fishscale and scrolls, the bottle mounts with cartouches, grapevines and acanthus, with floral and foliate scroll mounted glass stoppers, the glass bottles engraved with grotesque masks and scrolling foliage, the tray engraved with a monogram MJR and coronet, marked on tray, holder, and mounts
The tray, 14¾in. (37.5cm.) long

The monogram is that of Mayer Amshel Rothschild (1818-1874), of Mentmore, co. Buckingham, and his wife Juliana (d.1877), daughter of Issac Cohen (1791-1846), whom he married in 1850. (5)
