A LOUIS XV ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX
by Louis Charonnat (fl. 1748-1781), marked, Paris, 1765/1766, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Jacques Prévost 1762-1768, with the counter-mark of Julien Alaterre 1768-1774, later struck with the Prague duty mark for 1806/1807
Oval box, the cover, base and sides with six oval enamel miniatures depicting scènes champêtres with shepherds and peasants, those on the sides framed by enamelled tesserae on blue bands set on horizontal reeding divided by lapis-lazuli blue enamelled urns on pilasters linked by green enamelled laurel swags, the lid and base bordered by blue and pink enamelled ribbon twist bands
