A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX
by Rémond, Lamy & Co., marked, Geneva, circa 1800, later struck with the Viennese duty mark ('Goldrepunze') of 1806/1807, the enamel in the manner of Jean-Louis Richter or Jean-Abraham Lissignol
Rectangular box with rounded corners, the lid, sides and base enamelled in translucent blue and black flinqué with a basketweave pattern on opposed engine-turning, the cover inset with an octagonal enamel miniature finely painted with Venus and Aeneas, framed by a stamped gold stylized acanthus border surrounded by a blue enamel fillet, below and around the base of the miniature a chased and pierced gold plaque with trophies of love and armour, outer white enamel border, the four corners of the sides with blue and black enamelled gold taille d'épargne leaves; with fitted red morocco case with pink silk lining
