A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX
by François Joanin, marked, Geneva, circa 1800, with prestige marks, the flange struck with inventory no. 3389
Octagonal flattened box, the cover, four long sides and base decorated with white taille d'épargne enamelled scrolls on burnished gold panels and with blue enamel stripes on a matted ground, the lid centred by a rectangular engine-turned reserve enamelled en plein in opalescent oyster-colour on a guilloché sunburst background and painted with the Triumph of Venus on her chariot, blue bordered foliage cut corners, bright-cut rims with very slightly everted incorporated thumbpiece
