Lot Essay

François-Charles-Joseph Bonaparte, son of Emperor Napoleon and his second wife Marie-Louise, daughter of Francis I of Austria, was proclaimed King of Rome at his birth and in 1815, Napoleon II. He spent most of his short life in the castle of Schönbrunn under the supervision of his grandfather. He was styled Duke of Reichstadt in 1818.
