A CASE VERTICAL OF CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE AND HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER CHABLIS FROM RAVENEAU
Purchased upon release and removed from professional storage
Corton-Charlemagne by Bonneau du Martray
In the most northern part of the Côte de Beaune, located on the very top of the hill of Corton. The actual vineyard is "wrapped" around the the hill and subsequently the sun shifts around the vineyard exposing different parts throughout the day. It is due to the sunny/shady and cold/warm periods during the day, that directly effects the ripening of the grapes in the vineyard. The charactherstics of the wine are that of a steely backbone, good acidity and minerals. Very different from the Puligny and Chassagne more like a Chablis. These wines also require longer ageing for optimum drinking. Domaine Bonneau de Martray owns 9,5 ha of the vineyard and some of the best microclimates. A third of the oak barrels are renewed every three years. The wine is returned to steel tanks after a year in cask to rest for six months or so before it is bottled. The Corton-Charlemagne by Bonneau de Martray is one of the finest examples of this fantastic Grand-cru appelation.
Corton-Charlemagne--Vintage 1992
Côte de Beaune, Bonneau du Martray
In original wooden case
Cool clean straw colour. Crisp pure and quite restrained aroma, nuts and butterscotch slowly evolving. Wonderful steely yet buttery palate; very fine balance; so much flavour; crisp buttery and very long on the finish; a truly sublime wine. ***** 5-7 years + Oct 2001 DW
