Lot 536 level: bottom neck; slightly raised cork, slightly signs of old seepage, dusty label. Lot 537 levels: three bottom neck or better, seven very top and two top shoulder; two torn labels, wines come from different importers
A bottle from this cellar exhibited all the classics of the great Lafite '59. A great deep, dense still purple-hued colour. A tight, compact nose of dense dark fruits. The palate of violets and cedarwood, evolving to smokey, tobacco and rich, rich plum compôte. What power, what length..will live forever. Later, much later, after I had spent several hours in the cellar, the rest of the bottle was enjoyed with the best ravioli and the cheeks of a newly-landed grouper. RB.
