Lot Essay

Tent bands are among the most mysterious of the Central Asian weavings. Employed to decorate the inner part of the tent (the yurt), they were typically reserved for special occasions such as a wedding celebration or a reception with important guests. This rare and highly unusual silk velvet ikat tent band is complete at approximately forty-two feet long with nearly all of the silk tassles in tact, all of which are saturated with rich, jewel-tone natural colors.
