A Pratt-type pipe
Circa 1800, perhaps Scottish
Enriched in a typical blue, green, brown and ochre palette and modelled as a grotesque beast with the body of a snake and the head of a bird, the creature with its scaly body curled in a single coil, the tail forming the mouthpiece, the head modelled as a duck's head holding the bowl of the pipe in its beak, the bowl applied with two moulded thistles and painted with stylised sprigs (mouthpiece restuck, very slight chip and crack to bowl)
