A Sevres-style gilt-metal mounted centrepiece
Late 19th Century
Of cup form, painted with a central crescent shaped panel of a group of lovers seated in a garden before a lake and turreted building, one gentleman playing the guitar, a lady at his side holds his music, a further gentleman wearing red leaning on a fence and peruses a rose, signed Cottinet, within tooled raised-gilt borders of cell, scroll and husk-pattern borders, the reverse painted with a similar landscape without figures, reserved on a dark-blue-ground, the interior painted with a continuous band of flowers and a bouquet to the centre, within a gilt-metal anthemion-pattern rim, the sweeping acanthus-moulded gilt-metal handles form satyr masks leading to a pedestal base on a shaped-square acanthus gilt-metal plinth
