In the 1880's the pictorial potential of inlaid stones underwent a rejuvenation in the various Florentine workshops. Inspired mainly by the skills of Giovanni Montelatici and combined with the artistic direction of Galileo Chini, the workhop gained international renoun with a piece entitled the 'Annunciation', inlaid into a table, winning a gold medallion at the Exposition Universelle in Paris, 1900. Montelatici established the La Muciva workshop, which continues to today, specialising in nostaligic domestic scenes with glimpses of rural life.
