Lot Essay

The sophisticated neoclassical design and particularly the incredibly dense and detailed carving of this frame relates to similar frames attributed to the Italian craftsmen Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo (1745-1820) and Giuseppe Antonio Gianotti (1739-1829). There is a similar frame by Gianotti in the Los Angeles Museum of Art.
