Lot Essay

This bibliothèque, with differences in the arched cornice, base, the mounts of the base and capitals of the pilasters and spandrel mounts, and with the addition of veneer and brass inlay, is modelled after a bibliothèque attributed to Charles Cressent which was also with Rosenberg & Stiebel, New York, and is illustrated in C. Packer Paris Furniture by Master Ebénistes, Newport, 1956, fig. 9.

An identical bibliothèque was sold Sotheby's New York, 31 October 1992, lot 52 ($60,000). This was possibly the property of Lydia Morrison.
