A Dieppe carved ivory oliphant**
19th Century
Carved in-the-round with rope-twists and stylised motifs with the entwined monogram D&H for Diane de Poitiers and Henry II, one side finely carved with putti, the other with Diana, twin metal bands for suspension

Lot Essay
This lot is modelled after an original carved for Diane de Poitiers by Benvenuto Cellini. On it he depicted his "Nymph of Fontainebleau", the same he had executed in bronze for François I.
