A Vauxhall brown saltglazed stoneware silver-mounted inscribed and dated tankard
1724, the silver mount with indistinct hallmark
Of cylindrical form, with ribbed strap handle, applied with an arched escutcheon containing a double half-length portrait of King George I and his Queen flanking a fleur-de-lys and with the incised inscription Tho Turner with the date 1724 below, flanked by stylised trees and flowerheads, the lower part with a clockwise stag-hunt with eight hounds and a huntsman holding a musket and a horn between reeded bands, the upper rim mounted in silver, the lower edge engraved with fronds and pierced with hearts inscribed God Preserve The Royal Family Amen Thos Turner 4 = 18 = 0 (some minute chipping to footrim and slight loss to two applied reliefs of hands)
