A Meissen figure of a huntsman
Circa 1750, incised 5
Modelled by J.J. Kändler, wearing a black hat and fur-lined green jacket, green waistcoat, pale-yellow breeches and gilt-buckled black shoes, a powder flask hanging from a strap slung over his shoulder, his musket resting on the ground and held in his right hand, standing with his left arm behind his back by a tree-stump with his dog at his feet, on a shaped mound base with moulded gilt scrolls and applied with flowers and foliage (tip of musket lacking, small chip to cuff and right index finger, minute chipping to ribbons and minute wear to enamels)

Lot Essay

Similar models were sold by Christie's London on 2nd October 1978, lot 121 and on 26th February 1963, lot 149. Another was sold by Christie's New York on 7th February 1987, lot 75 (part). A similar model, with the dog on the other side of the huntsman, was modelled by J.E. Eberlein.
