Lot Essay
This watch serves as a reminder of an important time in American watch production. From the early 1930s through the end of World War II, American watch companies became interested not only in the production of timepieces for civilian use, but also in producing timepieces for soldiers through contracts with the Unites States military.
The present model is commonly known as the Canteen model - as its shape, when on its side, was influenced by the typical military water canteens of the day. It has several interesting military design features, including the brushed finish of the case, the luminosity to the numerals and hands, the water-resistant features and the signature to the dial printed in black.
A similar model is illustrated in American Wristwatches: Five Decades of Style and Design by Edward Faber and Stewart Unger, p.164.
