Lot Essay

The sitter has traditionally been identified as Lady Tichborne and may be Mary (d. 24 December 1698), daughter of the Hon. William Arundell of Wardour, who married Sir Henry Tichborne, 3rd Bt., Lieutenant of the New Forest and Lieutenant of the Ordnance, by whom she had two sons, Henry Joseph and John Hermingild (the 4th and 5th baronets respectively) and two daughters.
