A CAUCASIAN KINDJAL, A DRESS DAGGER, A COMMEMORATIVE DAGGER, AND A CONCEALED DAGGER
The first late 19th Century
The first with plain blade (pitted), characteristic hilt covered with nielloed silver, and original leather-covered scabbard with nielloed silver mounts en suite with the hilt; the second with tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section etched with formal ornament against a frosted ground, white-metal hilt with palmette-shaped quillons, the grip cast in relief with flower-heads and scrollwork and with an inscribed oval cartouche on each side of the pommel, and engraved white-metal scabbard; the third with triangular-section blade from a bayonet (some pitting), brass hilt engraved 'XXI FT.' Bladensburg 1814', the grip inset with a silver panel on each side, one engraved with a crowned shield charged with a heraldic lion rampant, lobed brass pommel, and plain silver scabbard; the last formed as a wooden baton with silver mounts, one engraved with Masonic dividers, with tapering blade of square section, and pewter pommel in the form of a human skull with moonstone eyes
