A BROADSWORD, AND A RAPIER
Both 17th Century
The first with tapering rapier blade with single fuller on each side of the forte, one side stamped 'En Solingen' (the other side indistinct), unusual Oriental silver hilt formed of slender bars interrupted by nielloed knops, the guard composed of two side-guards linked at the front by a diagonal bar to the knuckle-guard, nielloed rear quillon formed as a tiger-head, pommel en suite, and waisted grip bound with plaited silver wire; the second with slender flattened blade, and simple silver hilt composed of vertically recurved quillons fluted at the centre and ovoidal tips, tall fluted ovoidal pommel, and wire-bound grip
