A GENERAL OFFICER'S 1831 PATTERN SWORD
1831-37, by Firmin & Sons, London
With fine narrow curved flat-sided blade inscribed 'Firmin & Sons, Sword Cutlers to His Majesty, 153 Strand, London', both sides etched with foliate decoration, 'WivR' cypher and crossed sword and baton, regulation mameluke hilt with cast gilt crosspiece, good ivory grips (one with small blemish, one rivet-head missing), and black leather scabbard with fine ornate gilt bands and an escutcheon bearing maker's details as on the blade
