A VENETIAN SCHIAVONA
17th Century
With broad flat double-edged blade with a single central fuller on each side of the forte, iron hilt with characteristic basket guard formed of flattened bars, two of them struck with the Venetian winged lion mark, and with inner thumb-ring and small rear quillon bent forwards, shield-shaped iron pommel with central boss on each face, original wooden grip spirally bound with cord and retaining it original leather covering, and old leather-covered cap extending over the ricasso
