A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BACKSWORD IN THE MANNER OF WALTER ALLAN OF STIRLING
Second quarter of the 18th Century
With slender blade double-edged towards the point and with two narrow almost full-length fullers on each face, the forte struck 'Andria Farara' between 'X' marks twice on each face, iron guard (minor damage) of slender waved bars enclosing panels filled by pierced hearts formed as quatrefoils and stylised fleurs-de-lys, waved fore-guards, slender rear quillon incised with spurious marks 'WA' over 'S', scrolled wrist-guard, rayskin-covered wooden grip spirally bound with brass ribbon and with silver ferrule at the top, fluted pommel, blue tassel, and chamois leather liner faced with blue velvet
