A FINE FRENCH (LOUIS XV) EMBROIDERED SADDLE-CLOTH AND HOLSTERS
Third quarter of the 18th Century
Of blue velvet lined with hessian (damaged and incomplete on the saddle-cloth) embroidered in silver thread with foliated scrollwork (some damage) framing shaped trellised panels and supporting sprays of flowers, the edges bordered by silver fringe (incomplete), the saddle-cloth shaped to the horse's crupper and the rear of the saddle, the pistol holsters each formed of an oval velvet panel with a hole attached to an iron ring supporting the chamois-leather holster proper
